Industrial Floor for Vaillant Training Room – Epoxy Flooring Case Study, UK

Introduction

Vaillant required a robust, easy-to-clean and professional-looking industrial floor for a new training room created within one of its existing facilities. A former industrial maintenance space was being repurposed as an engineer training room and laboratory, and the floor needed to be upgraded to match its new use. Elgood Industrial Flooring was appointed to prepare the existing concrete and install a Britdura 2000 self-smoothing solvent free epoxy floor in Slate Grey with a fine slip resistant finish, completing the installation in just two days.

Background

The area in question had previously been used for industrial maintenance activities, with a concrete floor that was serviceable but not suited to a clean, presentable training environment. Vaillant wanted a floor that would:

  • Look professional for visiting engineers and trainees

  • Be straightforward to clean and maintain

  • Provide reliable slip resistance without trapping dirt or making cleaning difficult

Elgood Industrial Flooring had already supplied industrial floor coatings and screeds at this site for many years, giving Vaillant confidence in both the products and the in-house installation team. The new training room offered an opportunity to build on that relationship and deliver a floor system tailored to the space’s updated function.

The Challenge

The project needed to deliver an upgraded industrial floor that would:

  • Convert a former maintenance area into a smart, fit-for-purpose training room and laboratory

  • Provide a low-glare, Slate Grey finish that looks professional and supports a clean, technical environment

  • Offer fine slip resistance for day-to-day safety without compromising ease of cleaning

  • Be installed quickly, in a single phase, to minimise disruption to the wider site

  • Be delivered in line with Covid-19 risk assessments, reducing contact and ensuring safe working practices

The existing concrete needed to be correctly prepared to ensure long-term performance and adhesion of the new epoxy system.

The Solution

Elgood Industrial Flooring designed and installed a complete epoxy flooring solution based on its Britdura 2000 solvent free system.

Key elements of the solution included:

  • Vacuum contained diamond grinding
The concrete floor was prepared using vacuum contained diamond grinding to clean the surface and create a strong mechanical key. This method removes surface contamination and laitance while controlling dust, making it suitable for occupied industrial sites and sensitive environments.

  • In-house manufactured flooring system
The industrial flooring system was manufactured by Elgood Industrial Flooring, ensuring full control over product quality and compatibility with the preparation methods used on site.

  • Britdura 2000 solvent free Epoxy Flow Coat
Elgood installed its Britdura 2000 solvent free Epoxy Flow Coat in Slate Grey. The self-smoothing resin was applied by trowel to ensure an even distribution of material, then finished by roller to achieve a consistent surface.

  • Fine slip resistant finish
A fine slip resistant texture was built into the surface. This provides sufficient grip underfoot for everyday movement while maintaining a light texture that does not inhibit cleaning and remains easy to keep presentable.

  • Efficient two-day programme and Covid-safe working
The installation was completed in a single phase over two days. Elgood worked in partnership with Vaillant to align with both parties’ Covid-19 risk assessments, minimising time spent in the main factory, wearing face coverings where required and using separate welfare facilities to reduce interaction.

Outcome

The new industrial floor has successfully transformed the training room for Vaillant:

  • A clean, professional Slate Grey epoxy floor that reflects the purpose of a modern training and laboratory environment

  • A self-smoothing, solvent free Britdura 2000 system that offers long-term durability and a seamless finish

  • Fine slip resistance that supports day-to-day safety while remaining easy to clean and maintain

  • A rapid, two-day installation carried out with careful attention to safe working and minimal disruption

  • Continued value from a trusted British manufacturer and installer whose epoxy systems have already performed successfully across the wider site

With the upgraded industrial flooring in place, Vaillant now has a training room floor that supports both the practical demands of engineer training and the professional image of the facility.
