Introduction
Vaillant Group Ltd required a specialist anti static industrial floor as part of an investment programme for a new production line in Derbyshire. The project called for a durable ESD floor that would meet BS EN 61340-5-1:2007, support the fit-out schedule and provide a practical, easy-to-clean surface for long-term production use. Elgood Industrial Flooring was appointed to install approximately 1,200 m² of Britdura 1000 anti static solvent free epoxy floor coating in Slate Grey, with additional Traffic Blue and Yellow markings, completing the work in two phases to align with Vaillant’s programme.
Background
Vaillant had worked with Elgood Industrial Flooring more than 10 years earlier to coat their old concrete floors, giving them confidence in both the products and the in-house installation team. When the business invested in a new production line, they needed a flooring system that could combine static control with durability, safety and value.
Because the project formed part of a wider fit-out, the installation needed to be phased carefully to avoid disrupting the overall programme. The floor also had to provide a fine slip resistant finish suitable for routine cleaning with scrubber dryer machines while still meeting the electrical performance required for ESD protection.

The Challenge
The project needed to meet several important requirements:
- Install an anti static industrial floor for a new production line in Derbyshire
- Meet BS EN 61340-5-1:2007 for ESD performance
- Prepare the existing floor so that contamination, including silicone contamination, would not affect the new system
- Provide a hard-wearing industrial floor suitable for ongoing production use
- Include colour zoning and markings to support layout clarity and movement
- Complete the project in two phases to suit Vaillant’s fit-out schedule
The Solution
Elgood Industrial Flooring specified and installed a complete Britdura 1000 anti static epoxy flooring system for Vaillant’s Derbyshire facility.
Key elements of the solution included:
- Scrub cleaning and substrate preparation
The floor was aggressively scrub cleaned to reduce silicone contamination before the new system was applied. This preparation stage was important in creating a reliable base for the anti static coating. - Low viscosity solvent free epoxy primer
After cleaning, the floor was sealed with Elgood’s low viscosity primer. This created a clean, silicone-free base coat and helped provide the right foundation for the ESD flooring system. - Britdura 1000 anti static solvent free epoxy floor coating
Vaillant selected Elgood Industrial Flooring’s Britdura 1000 anti static solvent free epoxy floor coating. The floor was installed at approximately 1 mm thickness and applied by scratch trowel and roller, creating a hard-wearing finish suitable for industrial use. - Copper earthing strip for ESD performance
As part of the installation, Elgood included the necessary copper earthing strip within the floor build-up, taken to one or more earth points as required by the client. This forms an essential part of the ESD flooring system and supports compliance with the required standard. - Slate Grey finish with Traffic Blue and Yellow markings
The main floor was finished in Slate Grey, with additional Traffic Blue and Yellow used to define areas within the layout. This helped improve visual organisation while maintaining a professional appearance across the production space. - Fine slip resistant surface
The coating included a built-in fine slip resistant finish, making it suitable for safe day-to-day use while remaining practical for cleaning with scrubber dryer machines.
All works were completed by Elgood Industrial Flooring’s own in-house installation team, ensuring consistent workmanship and a single point of responsibility from preparation through to final finishing.
Outcome
The completed anti static industrial floor provided Vaillant with a durable and compliant ESD flooring solution for their Derbyshire production facility:
- Approximately 1,200 m² of Britdura 1000 anti static solvent free epoxy floor coating
- An ESD floor laid to meet BS EN 61340-5-1:2007
- A hard-wearing Slate Grey industrial floor with Traffic Blue and Yellow markings for clearer zoning
