Introduction
Rowan Engineering, a growing engineering business in Banbury, acquired a new unit and needed the existing concrete floor upgraded before moving in machinery and equipment. The slab had been coated several times with solvent based paints and no longer offered the durability or appearance required for a modern production environment. Elgood Industrial Flooring was appointed to prepare and refurbish 155 m² of floor and to install a Britdura 750 solvent free epoxy industrial floor coating in Light Grey, delivering a hard wearing, easy-to-clean finish within a three day single phase programme.
Background
Rowan Engineering first contacted Elgood Industrial Flooring via the online Quick Quote Form, obtaining a guide price while they were still considering the purchase of the unit. Once the building had been acquired and the expansion confirmed, they were ready to proceed with the industrial flooring refurbishment.
The existing concrete floor showed the effects of multiple applications of solvent based paint over the years. While the slab itself remained fundamentally sound, the build up of coatings and general wear meant the surface was difficult to clean, patchy in appearance and not ideally suited to a busy engineering environment. Rowan wanted a long lasting industrial floor that would present well to staff and visitors and could be cleaned routinely without difficulty.
The Challenge
The project needed to achieve several clear objectives:

The Solution
Elgood Industrial Flooring designed and installed a complete industrial floor refurbishment based on vacuum contained preparation and the Britdura 750 Solvent Free Epoxy Coating.
Mechanical preparation

The main floor area was prepared using vacuum contained shot-blasting. This removed the existing solvent based paint, cleaned the surface and provided a textured mechanical key for the new epoxy coating while controlling dust within the unit.

Edges and areas inaccessible to the shot blaster were treated using diamond grinding. This ensured that the perimeter and tighter spaces were prepared to the same high standard as the main slab.
Industrial flooring system

Elgood specified Britdura 750 Solvent Free Epoxy Coating, manufactured in house specifically for industrial floors that require long term performance.

The coating was selected to give Rowan Engineering a hard wearing, long lasting surface that could be cleaned routinely and would retain a pleasing appearance over time.

The floor was finished in Light Grey, helping to reflect light, improve visibility and provide a neutral backdrop for machinery and day to day operations.
The entire installation was carried out by Elgood’s own small, full time in house installation team, ensuring consistent workmanship and a single point of responsibility from preparation through to final finishing.
