Introduction
European Springs required a hard-wearing industrial floor coating for its press shop in Beckenham, Kent. The existing 200 m² concrete floor had previously been covered with interlocking tiles, but these had proved unsuccessful in this particular environment. The concrete was also contaminated with oil and had been painted, so it needed thorough mechanical preparation before a new epoxy floor system could be installed.
Elgood Industrial Flooring was appointed to prepare the floor and install Britdura 2000 Solvent Free Epoxy Floor Flow Coat in Slate Grey and Cherry Red. The full industrial floor project was delivered in a single three-day phase over an extended weekend, providing European Springs with a durable 2 mm floor finish that could smooth defects and support easier cleaning.
Background
European Springs needed an industrial floor that would cope with the practical demands of a press shop while remaining easy to clean. Occasional oil spills were expected, so the floor finish needed enough texture to provide grip underfoot without making cleaning more difficult.
The previous interlocking floor tiles had not performed well in this environment. Once these had been removed, the painted and oil-contaminated concrete required a thorough mechanical clean to create a suitable base for the new industrial floor coating.

The Solution

Dust free shotblasting
Dust free shotblasting was used to provide a good clean physical key on the concrete surface. This preparation method helped remove contamination, clean the substrate and create the correct profile for strong adhesion of the new industrial floor coating.
Britdura 2000 Solvent Free Epoxy Floor Flow Coat
European Springs selected Elgood Industrial Flooring’s Britdura 2000 Solvent Free Epoxy Floor Flow Coat. The system is applied by trowel to a finished thickness of approximately 2 mm, helping to smooth defects in the existing floor while creating a durable industrial surface.
This made Britdura 2000 well suited to the press shop environment, where the floor needed to be hard-wearing, practical and easier to maintain.
Slate Grey and Cherry Red floor finish
The industrial floor was finished in Slate Grey and Cherry Red. This improved the appearance of the press shop while providing a clearer, more professional working environment.
Fine slip resistant surface
The coating included a fine slip resistant finish. This provided the texture needed to support grip underfoot, including in an environment where occasional oil spills could occur, while still allowing the floor to be cleaned with scrubber dryer machines.
Weekend installation programme
The full installation was completed in one phase over a three-day extended weekend. This allowed Elgood Industrial Flooring to prepare the concrete and install the complete industrial floor coating system within a short, controlled programme.
