Background
Witherbys needed an industrial floor that would complete the refurbishment of the facility while improving the condition, appearance and usability of the existing floor. The floor had several issues that needed to be resolved before a new coating system could be installed, including detached polymer concrete, old paint layers and contamination left behind by the previous occupant.
The project also included former office areas that had previously been carpeted. These areas required resurfacing with smoothing screed to provide a more suitable base and a cleaner final finish.

The Solution

Key elements of the solution included:
Removal of failed polymer concrete
Approximately 65 m² of contaminated and detached polymer concrete was removed. This ensured that failed and unstable sections of the existing floor were taken out before the new industrial flooring system was installed.
Industrial strength rapid drying smoothing screed
The removed areas were replaced with 20 mm of industrial strength rapid drying smoothing screed. This rebuilt the defective sections of the floor and created a suitable surface for the final epoxy coating system.
Smoothing screed to former office areas
A further 70 m² of smoothing screed was installed to resurface former office areas that had previously been carpeted. This helped create a more consistent surface across the refurbished facility and supported a better final finish.
