Industrial Floor Coating for Witherbys in Tottenham, London

Introduction

Witherbys required a cost-effective industrial floor coating for its refurbished facility in Tottenham, London. The existing floor included polymer concrete that had detached in places, while the surface had also been painted and left contaminated by the previous occupant. This meant the floor needed remedial work, careful preparation and a durable new epoxy coating before new machinery arrived on site.

Elgood Industrial Flooring was appointed to remove failed areas of polymer concrete, install industrial strength rapid drying smoothing screed, resurface former office areas and apply Britdura 750 Highbuild Solvent Free Epoxy Floor Coating in Light Grey.

The complete industrial floor project was delivered in a single five-day phase, with the floor ready for use the next day for the arrival of machinery.

Background

Witherbys needed an industrial floor that would complete the refurbishment of the facility while improving the condition, appearance and usability of the existing floor. The floor had several issues that needed to be resolved before a new coating system could be installed, including detached polymer concrete, old paint layers and contamination left behind by the previous occupant.

The project also included former office areas that had previously been carpeted. These areas required resurfacing with smoothing screed to provide a more suitable base and a cleaner final finish.

As British manufacturers and installers with more than 125 years of experience in industrial flooring, Elgood Industrial Flooring was able to provide a complete in-house solution. This included floor removal, repair, smoothing screed, surface preparation and installation of a UK manufactured Britdura epoxy floor coating.

The Challenge

The project needed to address several clear requirements:

Remove approximately 65 m² of contaminated and detached polymer concrete

Replace failed areas with 20 mm industrial strength rapid drying smoothing screed

Resurface approximately 70 m² of former office areas that had previously been carpeted

Remove existing layers of paint from the floor

Prepare contaminated areas left by the previous occupant

Provide a cost-effective industrial floor coating to complete the refurbishment

Install a hard-wearing finish suitable for the arrival of machinery

Complete the works in one five-day phase

Return the floor to use the next day

The Solution

Elgood Industrial Flooring specified and installed a complete industrial flooring solution for Witherbys in Tottenham, London.

Key elements of the solution included:

Removal of failed polymer concrete

Approximately 65 m² of contaminated and detached polymer concrete was removed. This ensured that failed and unstable sections of the existing floor were taken out before the new industrial flooring system was installed.

Industrial strength rapid drying smoothing screed

The removed areas were replaced with 20 mm of industrial strength rapid drying smoothing screed. This rebuilt the defective sections of the floor and created a suitable surface for the final epoxy coating system.

Smoothing screed to former office areas

A further 70 m² of smoothing screed was installed to resurface former office areas that had previously been carpeted. This helped create a more consistent surface across the refurbished facility and supported a better final finish.

Vacuum contained shotblasting

Vacuum contained shotblasting was used to remove existing layers of paint from the floor. This preparation method helped clean and profile the surface, creating the correct base for strong adhesion of the new industrial floor coating.

Diamond grinding to edges

Diamond grinding was used to prepare the floor edges. This ensured that perimeter details and harder-to-reach sections were properly prepared before the coating was applied.

Britdura 750 Highbuild Solvent Free Epoxy Floor Coating

Witherbys selected Elgood Industrial Flooring’s Britdura 750 Highbuild Solvent Free Epoxy Floor Coating in Light Grey. This system provided a cost-effective, hard-wearing industrial floor finish for the refurbished facility.

The Light Grey finish helped brighten the space and improve the appearance of the floor, creating a cleaner and more professional working environment.

Fine slip resistant finish

The floor was finished with a built-in fine slip resistant texture. This provided improved grip underfoot while remaining suitable for routine cleaning with scrubber dryer machines.

Single-phase installation programme

The full project was completed in one five-day phase. This allowed the floor repairs, preparation, screeding and coating works to be completed ahead of the arrival of machinery, with the finished industrial floor ready for use the next day.

Outcome

The completed industrial floor coating provided Witherbys with a practical, durable and visually improved floor for its refurbished Tottenham facility:

A Britdura 750 Highbuild Solvent Free Epoxy industrial floor coating in Light Grey

Removal of approximately 65 m² of contaminated and detached polymer concrete

Replacement with 20 mm industrial strength rapid drying smoothing screed

Resurfacing of approximately 70 m² of former office areas

Removal of existing paint layers using vacuum contained shotblasting

Diamond grinding to floor edges for detailed preparation

A built-in fine slip resistant finish suitable for scrubber dryer cleaning

A single five-day installation phase

A completed floor ready for use the next day for the arrival of machinery

By combining failed floor removal, industrial strength smoothing screed, vacuum contained shotblasting, diamond grinding and Britdura 750 epoxy floor coating, Elgood Industrial Flooring delivered a cost-effective industrial floor for Witherbys in Tottenham, London. The finished floor helped complete the refurbishment while providing a cleaner, stronger and more practical surface for the next stage of the facility’s use.
