BPB Ltd required a cost-effective and hard-wearing industrial floor coating for its production floor in Sussex. The existing 1,200 m² floor was old and worn, with a film of powders across the surface, so it needed careful preparation before a new high-performance coating system could be installed.

The project was delivered in one five-day phase during the shutdown leading up to Christmas, with the completed industrial floor ready for use the next day.
Background
BPB Ltd needed an industrial floor that would improve the appearance of the production area while making the surface easier to clean and maintain. The existing floor was worn and affected by powder residue, so the new system needed to provide a sealed, practical and more professional finish.
The floor also had to support the demands of an engineering environment with forklift traffic. This meant the industrial floor coating needed to provide durability, slip resistance and long-term performance in a busy operational setting.

The Solution
Elgood Industrial Flooring specified and installed a complete Britdura 750 highbuild solvent free epoxy flooring system for BPB Ltd in Sussex.
Key elements of the solution included:
Dust free shotblasting
Dust free shotblasting was used to provide a light physical key to the existing floor. This preparation method helped remove surface contamination, clean the substrate and create the correct profile for strong adhesion of the new industrial floor coating.
Diamond grinding to edges
Diamond grinding was used to prepare the floor edges. This ensured that the coating system could be installed neatly and consistently across the full floor area, including perimeter details and harder-to-reach sections.
Britdura 750 highbuild solvent free epoxy floor coating
BPB Ltd selected Elgood Industrial Flooring’s Britdura 750 highbuild solvent free epoxy floor coating. The system was applied using a scratch trowel technique to help achieve a consistent finish and even distribution of resin.
Britdura 750 was well suited to the brief because it provided a cost-effective, hard-wearing industrial floor coating for an engineering environment with forklift traffic.
Light Grey and Golden Yellow floor finish
The industrial floor was finished in Light Grey and Golden Yellow. This improved the appearance of the production floor while creating a cleaner and more professional working environment.
Fine slip resistant surface
The coating was installed with a fine slip resistant finish. In forklift areas, the grade of slip resistance was increased to provide additional surface grip where vehicle movement was expected.
Despite the slip resistant texture, the floor remained easy to clean using scrubber dryer machines and Elgood’s epoxy floor detergent cleaner.
Shutdown installation programme
The works were completed in one five-day phase during the shutdown leading up to Christmas. This allowed Elgood Industrial Flooring to complete preparation, coating and finishing works within a controlled programme, with the floor ready for use the next day.
