Introduction
South Wales Fire and Rescue required a hard-wearing industrial floor coating for a paint booth in South Wales. The new 200 m² concrete floor was in satisfactory condition, but it needed a durable sealed finish that would be easy to clean, easy to maintain and suitable for exposure to solvents.
Elgood Industrial Flooring was appointed directly by South Wales Fire and Rescue to ensure that their preferred industrial floor system was installed. Elgood prepared the concrete using vacuum contained dust free shot-blasting and diamond grinding before installing Britdura 750 Solvent Free Epoxy Floor Coating in Pebble Grey.
The complete industrial floor project was delivered in a single three-day phase, providing South Wales Fire and Rescue with a practical, attractive and light-reflecting floor finish for the paint booth.
Background
South Wales Fire and Rescue needed an industrial floor that would meet the specific requirements of a paint booth environment. The floor had to provide a hard-wearing surface that could cope with day-to-day use while also offering suitable chemical resistance for solvents.
Ease of cleaning was also an important part of the brief. In a paint booth, the industrial floor coating needs to be practical as well as durable, helping the working area remain cleaner and easier to maintain.
The client employed Elgood Industrial Flooring directly to ensure that Britdura 750 was installed. The Solution
Elgood Industrial Flooring specified and installed a complete Britdura 750 Solvent Free Epoxy Floor Coating system for South Wales Fire and Rescue.
Key elements of the solution included:
Vacuum contained dust free shot-blasting
The concrete floor was prepared using vacuum contained dust free shot-blasting. This preparation method cleaned and profiled the new concrete surface, helping to create the correct base for strong adhesion of the new industrial floor coating.
Diamond grinding to edges
The floor edges were attended to using hand-held diamond grinding. This ensured that perimeter details and harder-to-reach sections were properly prepared before the Britdura 750 system was installed.
Britdura 750 Solvent Free Epoxy Floor Coating
South Wales Fire and Rescue selected Elgood Industrial Flooring’s Britdura 750 Solvent Free Epoxy Floor Coating. The system was chosen for Elgood’s trowel application technique and competitive price.
The specified flooring provided a total floor thickness of approximately 1 mm, creating a durable, practical and hard-wearing industrial floor finish for the paint booth.
Pebble Grey floor finish
The industrial floor was finished in Pebble Grey. This attractive, light-reflecting colour helped create a cleaner and brighter working environment, which was important for the practical use of the paint booth.
Fine slip resistant finish
The coating included a built-in fine slip resistant finish. This provided improved grip underfoot while ensuring the surface did not inhibit cleaning, helping South Wales Fire and Rescue maintain the floor efficiently.
Complete in-house service
The Britdura 750 system was manufactured, prepared and installed entirely by Elgood Industrial Flooring. This removed divided responsibility and helped make Elgood’s workmanship and materials warranty meaningful.
