Industrial Floor Coating for Angus Lift Trucks – Epoxy Flooring Case Study, Leicestershire

Introduction

Angus Lift Trucks, a specialist in the hire and servicing of forklift trucks and other industrial plant, required a robust industrial floor coating for their new 700 m² facility in Hinckley, Leicestershire. Although the concrete slab was in good condition, the surface needed sealing to prevent dusting and staining, while providing a durable, slip resistant finish suitable for forklift traffic and scrubber dryer cleaning. Elgood Industrial Flooring was appointed to manufacture and install a Britdura solvent free epoxy industrial floor coating, completing the work in a single four day phase before the facility was occupied.

Background

Angus Lift Trucks operates a fleet of forklifts and industrial equipment, with the new Hinckley facility serving as a key hub for servicing and hire. The floor needed to withstand regular forklift movements, plant servicing and general warehouse activity, while also presenting a clean, professional appearance.

The newly laid concrete slab was structurally sound, but an untreated surface would have been prone to dusting and difficult to keep clean. Angus wanted an industrial flooring solution that would both protect the slab and enhance the overall presentation of the building. They contacted Elgood Industrial Flooring via the online Quick Quote service, received a guide price the same afternoon and followed up with a site survey to confirm specification and programme.

The Challenge

The brief for the new industrial floor included several key requirements:

  • Seal the new concrete slab to prevent dusting and reduce the risk of staining

  • Provide a hard wearing industrial floor coating capable of withstanding forklift and plant traffic

  • Deliver a finish that could be cleaned effectively using scrubber dryers

  • Use colour and line marking to improve presentation and define safe routes, including walkways and crossings between buildings

  • Incorporate a more textured slip finish in higher risk areas close to roller shutter doors

  • Complete the entire installation over 700 m² within a four day window before Angus Lift Trucks moved in

The Solution

Elgood Industrial Flooring designed and installed a complete industrial floor coating system based on its Britdura solvent free epoxy range.

Preparation

  • The concrete floor was mechanically prepared using vacuum contained shot-blasting, removing laitance and lightly texturing the surface to provide a strong mechanical key.

  • Edges and localised areas that were inaccessible to the shot blaster were prepared using handheld diamond grinding, ensuring consistent preparation across the whole 700 m² area.

  • The vacuum contained nature of the equipment helped to control and capture dust, maintaining a cleaner working environment during installation.

Industrial floor coating and layout

  • A Britdura solvent free epoxy industrial floor coating was applied to seal and protect the concrete, providing a dense, durable and easy-to-clean surface.

  • The main floor was finished in Dusty Grey RAL 7037, giving a neutral, professional appearance that brightens the warehouse and makes dirt easier to see and remove.

  • Golden Yellow lines were applied to form walkways and define traffic routes, improving safety and visual organisation.

  • A zebra crossing was created to provide a clearly marked safe walking route between the units.

  • Brilliant Red boxes highlighted fire exits, making emergency egress points highly visible.

  • A medium coarse slip finish was used by the roller shutter doors, increasing traction in areas more exposed to moisture, dirt and external conditions.

All works were carried out by Elgood’s small, full time in house installation team, ensuring consistent workmanship and a single point of responsibility from preparation through to final finishing.

Outcome

The completed industrial floor coating has provided Angus Lift Trucks with a high performance, easy-to-maintain warehouse floor at their Hinckley facility:

  • A sealed concrete slab that resists dusting and staining, protecting the underlying structure

  • A hard wearing Britdura solvent free epoxy industrial floor suited to intensive forklift and plant traffic

  • A fine slip resistant finish across the main floor, with a more textured surface at roller shutter doors for added safety

  • Clear visual definition of walkways, crossings, service bays and fire exits using Dusty Grey, Golden Yellow and Brilliant Red

  • A floor that can be cleaned efficiently using scrubber dryer machines, supporting good housekeeping and presentation

  • A four day, single phase installation completed before occupation, allowing Angus Lift Trucks to move straight into a fully finished, ready-to-use facility

By combining careful mechanical preparation with a British manufactured epoxy industrial floor coating and well considered line marking, Elgood Industrial Flooring has delivered a durable, safe and visually organised floor that supports Angus Lift Trucks’ day to day operations in Leicestershire.
