Introduction
Technicut Ltd appointed Elgood Industrial Flooring to provide a complete industrial floor coating system for their new 6,700 m² advanced manufacturing plant at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham. Having used our Britdura epoxy coatings across their Sheffield facilities for over 15 years, with some floors still performing after more than a decade in service, Technicut wanted the same long-term performance and reliability in their new purpose-built factory.
The new facility demanded an industrial floor that would stand up to intensive machining operations, provide clear visual definition between gangways and production zones, offer dependable slip resistance and help create a bright, low-glare working environment from day one.
Background
Over many years, Technicut has worked with Elgood Industrial Flooring on a number of projects, during which we have installed our Britdura 750 high-build solvent free epoxy coating in several of their Sheffield premises. These floors have demonstrated strong long-term performance under demanding industrial conditions.
As Technicut continued to expand, the business invested in a new advanced manufacturing plant at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham. Given the proven performance of our previous installations, Elgood was invited to tender for the new facility and to advise on the most appropriate industrial flooring specification for the freshly poured concrete slab.
The Challenge
The project presented several key requirements:
-
Preparing and coating 6,700 m² of new concrete to a consistent, high standard within the overall construction programme
-
Advising on and coordinating the choice of jointing materials to work with the proposed floor system
-
Determining the most suitable preparation method for a new slab, including a site trial before full-scale works
-
Delivering a slip-resistant industrial floor that provides purchase underfoot without the harsh glare of a high-gloss finish
-
Creating a clear but flexible layout, using colour to denote production areas and main gangways while allowing final details to be confirmed after occupation
The floor also needed to be manufactured and installed by a contractor with proven experience in large industrial projects, able to offer a reliable, UK-wide service and full control over materials and workmanship.
The Solution
As British manufacturers with over 125 years’ experience in industrial flooring, Elgood Industrial Flooring were able to oversee every stage of the project, from specification advice through to final installation.
Key elements of the solution included:
-
Pre-installation advice on jointing materials, installation timeframe and preparation strategy for the new concrete slab, including an on-site trial
-
Mechanical surface preparation using vacuum-contained shot-blasting, with all edges and difficult areas treated using handheld diamond floor grinders to ensure a sound, consistent substrate
-
Installation of Britdura 750 high-build solvent free epoxy coating, manufactured by Elgood Industrial Flooring, providing a durable, chemically resistant industrial floor with excellent long-term performance
-
A two-tone floor design using Dusty Grey and Charcoal to define production areas and the main gangway, supporting safe circulation and clear zoning across the factory
-
A built-in fine slip-resistant texture, giving secure footing while reflecting light in a controlled way, reducing glare and minimising the visibility of minor slab undulations compared to a smooth gloss finish
All works were carried out by our own in-house, qualified installation team, ensuring close quality control and a coordinated programme.
Outcome
The completed industrial floor coating has provided Technicut’s new Rotherham facility with a clean, bright and clearly organised working platform from day one. The Britdura 750 system delivers:
-
A robust and attractive industrial floor capable of withstanding intensive manufacturing use
-
Clear visual separation between gangways and production zones, improving safety and wayfinding
-
A slip-resistant, low-glare finish that supports comfort and confidence for staff and visitors
-
A layout that can be refined as machinery and processes are finalised, thanks to the two-tone design
-
Long-term performance from a British-manufactured epoxy system, installed by a specialist contractor with a proven track record at Technicut’s other sites
With their new industrial floor in place, Technicut can focus on production, confident that the surface beneath their operations has been designed, manufactured and installed for durability, safety and long-term value.
